Bethlehem (New Hampshire) now has a Jewish burial ground.
Jews first came to this town in the White Mountains from Boston, New York and Canada more than 80 years ago, seeking relief from hay fever and asthma.
They established a summer community, an aid society and a synagogue, which became year-round when some decided to settle there permanently.
Earlier this month, the Bethlehem Hebrew Congregation dedicated and consecrated a burial garden in the town cemetery. The area is exclusively for Jews and includes separate entrance gates and fences. It was planned as part of an expansion for the town cemetery.
Hassidic Jews still flock to Bethlehem each summer and stay in a hotel where they have their own synagogue.
