FM Lieberman: Palestinian Right of Return a Non-Starter

Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman reiterated that the so-called Palestinian right of return is a non-starter. Such a policy he explains would result in the destruction of the State of Israel.

In an Israel Radio interview on Thursday, the senior minister stated his Wednesday meeting with Egyptian Intelligence Chief General Omar Suleiman was “fascinating”. He added that today, it is clear to all that Israel and Egypt face the same threats. “It is not the threats against Egypt from Israel or against Israel from Egypt” he explained.

Regarding the diplomatic process with the PA (Palestinian Authority), Lieberman stated it is time to place the cards on the table, adding “I do not run from problems. We must announce that the right of return is a non-starter. All talks of previous administration surrounded negotiations. I never suggested that we rule over another nation. I think we must work to improve the Palestinian economy and stabilize the situation, which will then clear the way for one kind of agreement or another”.

The senior minister went on to question why today, 16 years after the Oslo Agreement, after much of Yehuda and Shomron were given to the PA, after the disengagement from Gaza, the talks are still deadlocked.
