Ephraim Zuroff, who heads the Jerusalem office of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, announced alleged Nazi war criminal John Demjanjuk has been placed in the number one slot of the organization’s list of war criminals.
Efforts are underway in the United States to extradite Demjanjuk, 89, to Germany to stand trial as an alleged Nazi concentration camp guard responsible for murdering thousands of Jews.
Demjanjuk was found guilty and sentenced to death in Israel, but won an appeal and was released, after which he returned to the United States.
