Tuesday Morning News Briefs from Eretz Yisrael


The 2-minute Holocaust Remembrance Day siren sounded on Tuesday morning at 10:00am marking the start of the day’s memorial events.

**Five Haifa children were hospitalized on Monday night, apparently the result of food poisoning. Four were released after a number of hours and one was admitted for observation.

**Police bomb-demolition technicians on Monday afternoon found a bomb in a storage room on Schneur Street in Netanya. A number of suspects were taken into custody including a soldier, compelling the involvement of military police.

**Hamas leader in Damascus Khaled Meshal stated the terror organization will kidnap additional IDF soldiers to compel the release of terrorists imprisoned in Israel.

**Eight people were injured in a Monday evening shooting incident in the southern Bedouin community of Tel Sheva, including a four-year-old boy. The wounded were transported to Soroka Medical Center. Police are investigating.

**At least one vehicle was damaged in rock attacks south of Chevron on Monday night. Baruch Hashem, no injuries were reported.

**A male about 25-years-old was struck and killed by a vehicle at Jerusalem’s Uzi Narkis Bridge in the French Hill area on Monday night.

**Two firebombs were hurled at a bus near Bet Omer on Monday night, located southeast of PA-occupied Bet Lechem. Baruch Hashem, there were no injuries.

**A firebomb was hurled at a Jewish driver near Ein Yabroud, an Arab village located in the Benjamin Regional Council area of Shomron. Baruch Hashem there were no injuries in the Monday night attack.

**The Vatican on Monday released a statement condemning Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s address at the Durban Conference.

** IDF soldiers involved in counter-terror operations throughout Yehuda and Shomron on Monday night arrested 15 suspects.

**Tuesday night, 28 Nissan, will mark the 8th yahrzeit of the Pinsk-Karlin Rebbe ZT”L. Many visitors will make their way to his kever located in Har Menuchos.

**The annual Lev L’Achim kenos will take place today, Tuesday. The leader of the Halabi community traveled from the United States to attend the event, HaGaon Rav Yossi Hariri Raful, Rosh Yeshiva Ateret Torah and a member of the Council of Torah Sages in the USA. The kenos will get underway at 4:00pm in the Heichal Malchus Hall in Bnei Brak.

**Tuesday marks the 3rd yahrzeit of HaGaon HaTzaddik Rabbi Moshe Halberstam ZT”L. Yahrzeit seudos will be held in Eretz Yisrael, USA, Antwerp, and in London. The main seuda in Jerusalem will take place in the old Beis Yaakov in the Beis Yisrael neighborhood.

** Many rabbonim and bnei Torah were on hand to be melave the niftar, HaGaon Rav Yehoshua Hutner z”l, a major force behind the Talmudic Encyclopedia as well as the Israel Talmudic Institute. He was niftar on Monday at the age of 98.

**Jordan’s King Abdullah II will be meeting with US President Barak Obama in the White House on Tuesday.
