The Knesset took a break from summer vacation to address concerns pertaining to national violence following the stabbing attack at the Jerusalem Toeiva Parade which left one person dead and other wounded. Lawmakers also discussed the arson attack in the PA (Palestinian Authority) village of Duma, which left an infant dead and three others badly burned.
The opposition lashed out at the coalition leaders, with MK (Zionist Camp) Tzipi Livni calling on the country’s leaders to do a cheshbon nefesh. She accusingly told the coalition “We won’t permit you to turn yourselves into victims”, stating this will not go away or be ignored and it must be addressed. Livni feels that hostile statements against Israel’s toeiva community is partially to blame for lending an air of ‘legitimacy’ to attacks against members of this community. The opposition unabashedly blamed MKs like Betzalel Smotrich of Bayit Yehudi for playing a role in the stabbing attack because he dares to speak out against toeiva and that community’s way of life.
Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan did not apologize but went on the offensive. He cited how when churches were targeted in arson and vandalism attacks the government was quick to condemn it and take appropriate action to apprehend the culprits. Erdan explained the same is true regarding the attack against the Jerusalem Bilingual School. Erdan accused the left-wing of being hypocritical, maintaining those behind the attacks are a fringe group in the right-wing and not a large segment of the right-wing community as the opposition alleges. Erdan questioned why the left-wing is silent when firebombs are hurled on Highway 443 (Jerusalem – Modi’in Highway) or when Jews are attacked in the eastern capital, emphasizing the left-wing’s lip service that lacks legitimacy.
Other members of the accusation attacked the coalition and Erdan, who stood firm in his position.

Yes, as they state, it’s נקמה, and although it is not to be condoned, it is a reaction of ENOUGH ALREADY!
Zionism is based on the idea of expressing your political views thorugh violence. That is what differntiates Hareidim (cf. ויאל משה) from Zionists. Once you go up to attack the walls (a paraphrase from the Hebrew), you are in a permanent attack mode. Perhaps that is why it was prohibited to begin with. However murdering children to express you political outrage is a logical end result of the decision to climb up the walls to seize the land of Israel from the Brits and the Arabs.
