Directors of Talmidei Torah Using WhatsApp to Send Message Regarding Kosher Phone Requirement

wapThe following article may attest to the fact that even among the frum kosher phone community, WhatsApp is becoming increasingly popular.

As talmidei torah are continuing their battle against unwanted technology, it is reported that schools are cracking down more than ever on families with non-kosher cellular telephones.

Kikar Shabbos News reports Talmid Torah Chachmat Shlomo in Yerushalayim on Monday, 18 Menachem Av, sent a message to parents of talmidim, stating their children may not continue in the school for as long as the parents have a non-kosher cell phone.

The letter to parents adds “We wish you much nachas and thank you for your cooperation”. The P.S. adds “Certainly you are aware that today there are kosher phones capable of working with email, SMS and WhatsApp”.

It is pointed out the message was sent to parents via WhatsApp.

A few minutes later, following the first message, another message stated “This message was sent to all parents with WhatsApp, not to a specific parent, and we plan to enforce the rule with tenacity”, the rule that prohibits parents from having a non-kosher phone.

  1. kosher phones can have whatsapp, they state that in the article. and yet they say a child may only continue if they a kosher phone….

  2. We gotta start reinterpreting this posuk:
    יחזקאל יח כ
    הַנֶּפֶשׁ הַחֹטֵאת, הִיא תָמוּת: בֵּן לֹא-יִשָּׂא בַּעֲו‍ֹן הָאָב, וְאָב לֹא יִשָּׂא בַּעֲו‍ֹן הַבֵּן–צִדְקַת הַצַּדִּיק עָלָיו תִּהְיֶה, וְרִשְׁעַת רשע (הָרָשָׁע) עָלָיו תִּהְיֶה

The soul that sinneth, it shall die; the son shall not bear the iniquity of the father with him, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son with him; the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.

I understand the influence factor but you cannot enforce expelling a child because of a parent. Increase in mussar instead 🙂
