The sweltering heatwave that began in Israel at the end of last week is predicted to continue through the coming days. Temperatures in Yerushalayim on Shabbos Nachamu reached 34 C (93.2 F) and it felt considerably hotter with the heat index. Today, Sunday, temperatures in the capital are expected to climb to 39 C (102.2 F) and with the heat index, it will feel like 106 F. Monday’s weather for the capital calls for the temperature reaching 98 F and with the heat index, it will feel like 105 F.

· Haifa 95 F/ feel like 108 F
· Tiveria 111 F / feel like 116 F
· Eilat 113 F / feel like 115 F
· Arad 104 F/ feel like 110 F
· Beersheva 102 F / feel like 109 F
· Hadera 97 F / feel like 107 F
· Hebron 100 F / feel like 104 F
· Shomron 100 F/ feel like 106 F
The Health Ministry has issued an alert, urging the elderly and persons with chronic respiratory and cardiac conditions to remain indoors, in an air conditioned environment if possible. People who are outdoors are instructed to drink copious amounts of water even if they are not thirsty, with the experts explaining that once one feels the signs of dehydration it may be too late to break the cycle without medical intervention.
Magen David Adom and Ichud Hatzalah urge people to use sunblock, wear clothing that provides shade from the intense rays of the sun and to of course drink copious amounts of water.
The Education Ministry has canceled all field trips for summer camps and many hiking trails in parks around the country have been closed to keep hikers out due to the high risk of weather-related injuries.
