Official: MTA Might Face More Cuts

mta1.jpgAn official for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority says additional service cuts or fare increases might be needed because of a sharp decline in state tax revenues.

The chief financial officer of the authority, Gary Dellaverson, cited the new projection Monday. He refused to give details of what is being considered but says to balance the budget the MTA could make deeper cuts or increase fares a second time before the end of the year.

A state bailout of the authority that is backed by Gov. David Paterson is bogged down in the Legislature.

  1. Why is it necessary to raise our fares and cut services ….how about the people who “work” for the MTA take a salary CUT to help with the problem. Many of the positions are a total waste and are not necessary. There are 9 high positions for every low worker.More than ever ridership is up, so where is the $$$ going???MY bus driver said that the big guys are sitting all day watching TV!!!
