With reports the nation’s batei din affiliated with the Chief Rabbinate of Israel lack 80 dayanim, Tzohar Rabbonim leader Rabbi David Stav released a statement that he does not believe the newly appointed dayanim must be from the dati leumi community. Rabbi Stav issued a call to members of the committee to select the most qualified dayanim and not to become concerned with the hashkafa of a candidate.
Members of the committee are not eve required to be shomer Shabbos, yet alone talmidei chachamim and too often appointments are tainted by a committee member’s political interests or back-room deal-making.
“There is no significance to the question if a dayan is chareidi or dati leumi and I daven that the committee will select according to qualifications and not affiliation with an awareness of the responsibility the dayanim carry. The color or size of a yarmulke is not relevant” explained Rav Stav.

What makes a qualified Dayan according to his hashkafa…?
#1 I believe he said he is looking for Dayanim that are TALMIDAI CHACHOMIM, what would hashkafa have to do with this?
A Dayan must be a baki in halachsh, pass all bechinos, have shimus in areas, etc. there are Dati Leumi & Charedei rabbonim
That fill the bill.
