Jerusalem Mayor Barkat Praises the Work Ethic of Chareidi Women

nbaKnesset Technology Committee Chairman MK Uri Maklev during a committee session stressed the need to maintain Jerusalem’s good standing in the technological community.

Maklev added that the Knesset has assisted Jerusalem in many areas, including the recent battle to save the financially ailing Hadassah Hospitals, citing the medical and technical facilities in the capital are of the utmost importance towards maintaining economic solvency and to prevent native migration from the city.

During the meeting, Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat stated City Hall has placed these areas high on its agenda and their presence in the city means employment and stability for the city. The mayor used the opportunity to state thousands of chareidi women are employed in city’s high tech community.

“I have visited many of these places and employers spoke positively regarding the chareidi women, speaking of their dedication and professionalism, and certainly they are a bracha to the city and the technological firms here. Employers are interested in chareidi employees” the mayor added.

MK (Zionist Camp) Dr. Erel Margalit, who was a member of the Jerusalem high tech community before entering Knesset added “In recent years there has been a renaissance in high tech in Jerusalem and there are more than a few chareidi women involved. There are firms that are seeking out chareidi women specifically, and if the relevant backing continues, the number of chareidi women in the high tech field will continue growing”.

Margalit echoed the mayor’s words, praising the work ethic and professionalism of the chareidi women in the field.

Maklev added that chareidi women have high standards, and this is why they excel in the workplace. He added that unfortunately, they are still discriminated against in the workplace.

MK (Shas) Yaakov Margi recently called for an urgent session of the Knesset Labor Committee to address the ongoing discrimination against chareidi women in the workplace.
