The Tel Aviv Labor Court on Monday issued a temporary injunction preventing the dismissal of Arab employees of Israel Railways. The railway explained the reason dozens of Arab inspectors were being dismissed is not because of their nationality but because they did not serve in the IDF, explaining they would be replaced by IDF vets. Another hearing on the case was set for April 16th.
Responding to the court’s ruling was Arab MK Dr. Ahmed Tibi, who called it “a move towards ending discrimination”.
The petitioners questioned just why they are no longer deemed suitable after serving in their jobs for a number of years.
Joining in against the move is Minister of Minority Affairs Dr. Avishai Braverman, who called on the railway to reverse its decision. Braverman sent an angry letter to Minister of Transportation Yisrael Katz, calling to reverse the unacceptable practice.
