Another Gaza Border Bomb Attack Thwarted

For the second time in four days, Golani soldiers operating along the Gaza border fence on Shabbos detected terrorists placing a bomb along the northern border area, in proximity to Karni. Soldiers opened fire eliminating two of the terrorists and thereby preventing another bomb attack intended to strike out at IDF Gaza border patrols.

The soldiers moved to the Gaza side of the fence and opened fire and a search of the area revealed a handgun and a rocket as well. One of the dead terrorists was identified as a 22-year-old Islamic Jihad member.  He was involved in a bomb attack in the area in 2008 in which two soldiers were killed as well as an attack last January in which one soldier was killed.

Messages released from Hamas-controlled Gaza point to renewed fighting with Israel, warning the ongoing mediated talks between Hamas and Israel are not resulting in any productive results and the current situation cannot be permitted to continue indefinitely.
