At a ceremony held on Tuesday 20 Tammuz marking one year since Operation Protective Edge, a senior IDF official announced that in the coming days the new tunnel detecting system will be operational. According to the report, the system is already in place along the Gaza border.

The officer confirms that Hamas continues efforts to dig new tunnels, adding none of the 32 tunnels destroyed like the IDF during the counter-terrorism offensive have been renovated. It was added that Hamas remains unrelenting in its effort to rearm and continue to smuggle weaponry into Gaza from Egypt. While Egypt has been most effective in shutting down Hamas’ smuggling operation, Hamas continues to develop new relationships with extremists in Sinai towards building an alternative smuggling network.
