High Court Rules That Olmert Does Not Need To Begin Prison Sentence On Thursday

olmIsrael’s High Court of Justice on Wednesday, 21 Tammuz ruled that former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert does not have to begin serving his prison sentence on Thursday and he will remain a free man pending the outcome of the appeals that have been filed by his legal team.

This hearing pertains to Olmert’s conviction in the so-called Talansky cash envelopes case. The former prime minister was sentenced to eight months imprisonment and he is scheduled to enter prison on Thursday, unless the Supreme Court intervenes and accepts his appeal.

In a different conviction the former prime minister was permitted to remain free pending the outcome of his appeal and Mr. Olmert hopes the court will see fit to permit this arrangement to continue concerning the Talansky case conviction too.
