A tank commander was sentenced to 14 days in prison for mistakenly firing a a tank’s machinegun striking a nearby jeep. A senior commander was seated in the jeep, but Baruch Hashem, he escaped unharmed.
The tank commander was disciplined by the battalion commander and the platoon commander was held accountable by the brigade commander, also sent to the brig for 14 days. The company commander was censured, but will not be serving jail time.
The incident occurred about two weeks ago as was reported HERE by YWN during a Golani Brigade exercise in concert with tank corps units. The jeep’s windshield was blown out by the gunfire, but b’chasdei Hashem, there were no injuries.
