In his response to the High Court of Justice, Attorney General Menachem Mazuz on Monday morning indicated he not changed his legal opinion and stated there is no reason to prevent Avigdor Lieberman from serving as foreign minister and there is no problem with a member of his Yisrael Beitenu Party serving as minister of public security, which is responsible for Israel Police.
Mazuz just reiterated his earlier opinion when challenged due to the police probe against Lieberman, as indicated in the MQG petition, which states police plan to question Lieberman pertaining to alleged white collar criminal activity. Mazuz maintains that the current stage of the investigation, it does not preclude him from serving as foreign minister.
Mazuz’s was compelled to respond to the court following a petition filed by the Movement for Quality Government to prevent the appointment of Lieberman as foreign minister based on the ongoing police probe against him.
