Representatives of Degel HaTorah are meeting on Monday with Maran Rav Elyashiv Shlita seeking his approval on the giyur issue, which is preventing Yahadut HaTorah from signing a coalition deal.
Rav Zilberstein Shlita is working with Chief Rabbi Shlomo Amar Shlita and others towards appointing a vaad of rabbonim which will oversee the giyur issue.
Likud negotiator Ze’ev Elkin met on Sunday night with Rav Amar, seeking to reach a solution to the giyur issue surrounding the controversy over the state-approved giyur program which certified thousands of giyurim under the auspices of Rav Chaim Druckman Shlita.
There appear to be difficulties regarding the calls to retroactively cancel the conversions of many if not all of the converts under the state program while the government seems to exhibit flexibility regarding the future, unwilling to go along with invalidating those people already certified as Jews in the state-approved program.
