Arab Pharmacist Targeted in Assault in Givatayim

sfA pharmacist in the nationwide Super-Pharm chain in Givatayim asked a customer to be patient. The response was a harsh verbal abuse against him, including racial slurs addressing him being an Arab. The attacker allegedly try to strike him too.

According to the MyNet report, 22-year-old L.G. was indicted in the Tel Aviv Magistrate Court after losing her cool in the store and cursing out the pharmacist. L.G. arrived at the branch on Derech HaShalom in Givatayim two years ago during the evening hours to purchase pharmaceuticals. When asked to wait patiently she shouted at him, asking for his name and identification. He explained his information appears on his name tag which is visible to all and she is welcome to copy the details. She photographed his tag with her smartphone but did so by putting the phone in his face. He pushed her hand away and she smacked him.

She then continued shouting and threatened to have him ousted and she would make certain he never steps in Givatayim again. As some point she allegedly tried to assault him with a can of deodorant she took from a shelf and another employee acted to block her and he was attacked.

The trial is expected to begin in the near future.

  1. She would have done the same if he was a haredi or a woman or ….. She just lost it not realising that waiting in line is a civilised way of conducting business where more than one person is waiting for the pharmacist’s attention. Just a typical Israeli reaction. Nothing worth reporting on.

  2. #1- she might not have done so had the person been someone she perceived of as one of her community. Arabs (and Hareidim) are easier targets.
