The controversial ‘Body Worlds’ exhibit, which has sparked controversy around the world, is scheduled to arrive in Haifa’s National Museum of Science next month. The exhibit is composed of preserved human bodies and bodily parts.
Hoping to prevent the three-month exhibit, a number of petitions have already been filed with the High Court of Justice.
The exhibit is no stranger to protests, which have followed it around the world, including protests by many religious leaders from various religions who point out the entire exhibit amounts to total disrespect for the dead. A letter was sent to Minister of Science, Culture & Sport Raleb Majadele by Haifa Mayor Yona Yahav and others, urging he cancel the exhibit.
Zaka leader Yehuda Meshi-Zahav questions the origin of the body parts, adding he plans to organize protests if the exhibit is not canceled. He claims that not knowing the origin of the bodies also raises the question of gross human rights violations, adding that there are claims the bodies are taken from people executed in China and until this can be verified the exhibit mustn’t be permitted to enter Israel.
Following is provided by Wikipedia: Body Worlds (German title: Körperwelten) is a traveling exhibition of preserved human bodies and body parts that are prepared using a technique called plastination to reveal inner anatomical structures. The exhibition’s developer and promoter is a German anatomist named Gunther von Hagens, who invented the plastination technique in the late 1970s at the University of Heidelberg.
