The European Jewish Congress (EJC) has called on European nations to dismiss and disregard the report by the UN Human Rights Council’s commission of inquiry into the Israel-Hamas war of 2014, released today.
“The commission was born in sin with its support from and approval by most of the world’s serial human rights abusing nations, given to a person who has past financial interests in the conflict and when it was unable to appoint a single military expert to an inquiry into military actions and the rules of war,” said Dr. Moshe Kantor, President of the EJC. “For these and countless other well-known reasons the report is undeniably biased, indefensible and lacking any credibility.”
“A high level military experts’ inquiry has already stated that Israel went out of its way to minimize civilian casualties and observe international law during last summer’s conflict, even to the point of costing the lives of its own soldiers and citizens. This is the opinion of people who have represented democratic militaries facing non-conventional terrorist and guerrilla entities so their opinion is that of experience and reality.”
Dr. Kantor was referring to the report recently released by The High Level Military Group, 11 high-ranking former military commanders and senior international politicians from around the world. The panel includes the former chiefs of staff of the German, Italian and Spanish armed forces, and the former Commander of British Forces in Afghanistan.
“European governments would do well to heed the expertise of their own military commanders and completely disregard the ‘theatre of the absurd’ that is the UN Human Rights Council, which is hijacked purely for the purpose of keeping the most undemocratic nations off the international agenda,” Dr. Kantor continued. “Furthermore, by attacking a fellow democratic nation, Israel, in the way it legitimately defends itself against terrorism, a precedent will be set that will tie the hands of any western nation as it seeks to prevent terrorists from harming its citizens.”
“Any adoption of a censure against Israel could severely hamper democratic nations’ attempts to fight back against the growing terrorist threat which is enveloping us all in its bloodthirsty attempts at conquest and bloodshed.”
