Police say security agents have found a loaded gun in a New York man’s carry-on bag as he prepared to board a flight at Newark Liberty International Airport.
Joe Pentangelo with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey police says 40-year-old Gregory Soltanoff, of Woodstock, was charged Sunday with unlawful possession of a handgun and hollow-point bullets.
He says Transportation Security Administration officers found the .32 caliber firearm in the bag after it was screened at a checkpoint. It was loaded with six bullets. The gun was detected by a TSA officer who was monitoring an X-ray machine.
TSA officers then contacted Port Authority police, and Soltanoff was arrested. He was released later Sunday.
Airport operations weren’t affected.
A telephone call to Soltanoff’s house rang unanswered Monday afternoon.

So, TSA is not such a nuisance after all?
Incidentally, TSA catches an average of 30 firearms in airports around the country every week. Last week, they caught 55, of which more than 40 were loaded.
