Making it Easier to Defect in Knesset

There is an effort underway to modify the current law that demands one-third of a party’s members to break away and form a new entity. If the lawmakers have their way, only a quarter of a party will be required for the rebellious move instead of a third.

Spearheading the move are members of Likud, who are interested in facilitating the process for Kadima and Labor MKs, in the hope this may pave the road for their decision to change parties and join the ruling coalition. Special attention is paid to Ehud Barak and Shaul Mofaz and their respective supporters in Labor and Kadima respectively.

Likud officials behind the move will in all likelihood hold off until the completion of coalition negotiations before advancing such legislation.
