Hamas Not Sincere Regarding Coalition Talks with Fatah

According to Chief of Military Intelligence Major-General Amos Yadlin, Hamas is not at all sincere regarding ongoing talks towards reaching an agreement to form a coalition PA government with Fatah.

Hamas is using the time following Cast Lead to rebuild itself, to reorganize and rearm, as talks with Fatah leader continue in the background of the ceasefire with Israel, which is the result of both sides declaring a unilateral halt, without signing an agreement. Intelligence officials believe the continuous rocket fire is not the work of Hamas, but of Islamic Jihad and other Gaza-based terrorists, explaining at present, it is not in Hamas’ interest to elicit an Israeli response or the launch of another offensive.

In line with the intelligence chief’s statements, Hamas officials in Gaza have released statements that it has called on the Islamic Jihad to curb its activities, referring to rocket attacks along Gaza’s northern border.
