Secretary Clinton Officially Begins Her First Visit in Israel

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Tuesday morning officially begins her first visit to Israel in her new senior post. She arrived from Sharm el-Sheikh on Monday night.

Clinton will spend the day meeting with senior government officials, beginning with a meeting in the Presidential Residence with President Shimon Peres. This meet is more a formality that one that will address core political issues since officially, Israel’s president is non-partisan and is expected to remove himself from the political arena.

The next meeting will be with outgoing Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, which will be followed by a joint press conference. The secretary will then make a visit to Yad Vashem, where she will lay a wreath, followed by meetings with outgoing Defense Minister Ehud Barak and incoming Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.

The highlight of the visit will be the state dinner in her honor hosted by outgoing Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, on Tuesday evening, in his official residence.

On Wednesday, prior to her departure, Secretary Clinton will travel to Ramallah for meetings with PA (Palestinian Authority) officials, including PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen).

  1. Clinton is nothing but trouble and more trouble. If you think Bill was an ego, wait’ll you get a load of her.

  2. AND WHAT ABOUT IRAN?? Did the US wait long enough and encourage inaction on the part of Israel lone enough so that Iran could set put itself in a stronger position? Now does not seem like the time for the US to clean up the problem with the palestinians.
