Lieberman Initiates Meeting with Religious Parties

liebermann.jpgYisrael Beitenu leader Avigdor Lieberman at noon convened with leaders of the chareidi and religious parties in an effort to work out differences to permit entering a government coalition together. Representing Shas was Yaakov Margi, not Eli Yishai. While there is much secrecy surrounding the meeting, it appears that Yaakov Litzman is representing Yahadut HaTorah.

Also taking part in the meeting were representatives of Ichud HaLeumi and Bayit Yehudi.

Lieberman is well-aware that the religious parties provide the needed numbers for a coalition, but he needs to reach an agreement on key issues, including religion and state and civil marriages. Lieberman is working to show Shas and Yahadut HaTorah that he is not anti-chareidi, and that quite the opposite is true.

While the meeting was taking place, MK Moshe Gafne met with Maran Rav Elyashiv Shlita, discussing the civil marriage legislation, seeking instruction as how to act.
