The attorney for a former SS sergeant being tried on 300,000 counts of accessory to murder for serving as a guard at the Auschwitz death camp says his client plans to make another statement to the court.

As the Lueneburg state court trial opened last month, Oskar Groening detailed at length how he ended up at Auschwitz, tasked with sorting cash and valuables seized from Jews as they arrived at the camp.

The 93-year-old told the court he felt a “moral guilt” for serving there, but said it was up to the court to the judges if he was legally guilty of a crime.

Defense attorney Hans Holtermann said Wednesday that Groening would make another statement in the coming days but gave no other details, the dpa news agency reported.
