WEATHER ALERT: NYC May Get 10″ Of Snow

weather2.gifThe following report is via WCBSTV / CBS meteorologists:

The tri-state is in for what could become the season’s biggest winter storm, with major snow accumulations expected.

Saturday night will kick off the weekend’s winter precipitation, with rain-sleet-snow mixes hitting the tri-state. Accumulations aren’t expected to be too severe for Saturday, but about an inch will coat the City and Long Island, with areas north and west getting about 1-3″.

Saturday night’s jab will be tame compared to the uppercut that Sunday night and Monday could bring – quite possibly the strongest storm of the season.

Models suggest that the City will see 4-7″ of total snow accumulation Sunday night into Monday, with Long Island getting slightly more – about 6-8″ of the white stuff. Parts of eastern LI could get 10 inches or more.

The National Weather Service, though, is projecting up to 10 inches for New York City, and almost a foot of snowfall for Long Island.

Areas north and west of the city will get significantly less precipitation, as this storm is a coastal event.

The inclement weather begins Saturday night, and we can expect a wintry mix of rain, snow and sleet continuing through the first half of Sunday. On Sunday night, that mix will become a heavy blanket of snow for the tri-state area.

The biggest snow event so far this winter for NYC saw 4.3″ of accumulation, so this system is expected to be the biggest storm of the season for the tri-state.

As the system gets closer, estimates should become more precise.

Temperatures will reach a high of 42 on Saturday, and will drop to a low of 32.

Significant accumulation is possible.

Forecast:

Monday: High 25, Low 18
Snow likely. Additional moderate snow accumulation possible. Windy and cold with highs in the mid 20s. North winds 15 to 25 mph. Chance of snow 70 percent.

Tuesday: High 34, Low 20
Partly sunny. Highs in the mid 30s.

Wednesday: High 36, Low 25
Sunny. Highs in the upper 30s.

  1. The headlines on CNN reads “‘Storm to remember’ to hit U.S. northeast” I wonder if we can get the hint of what Hashem is perhaps trying to message us???? I am sure there are many good reasons who knows, one of them might be to stop people from attending the event in Madison square garden, I am sure some will agree some will argue, time will tell as the day goes on ……..
