Jury In 1979 Case Of Missing Boy Etan Patz Dismissed For Day

epaThe judge overseeing the New York murder trial surrounding the 1979 disappearance of 6-year-old Etan Patz has sent the jury home early for the day.

The judge’s decision to send jurors home Wednesday came after they sent him a note saying they couldn’t reach a unanimous verdict after 10 days of deliberations in the trial of Pedro Hernandez. The judge told them to keep deliberating.

Hernandez is accused of kidnapping and killing Etan, whose disappearance helped galvanize a national movement to find missing children.

The jury has asked to rehear closing arguments in the case, and the judge decided to do that Thursday. He had other cases to attend to Wednesday and thought it would take too long to line up another courtroom and judge for that.
