11:30AM IL: 30 people have been lightly injured as a result of a hazardous materials incident in Eilat’s Club Hotel. 24 of the injured are being transported to the city’s Yosef-Tal Hospital. The remainder is being treated on the scene.
Firefighters and environmental ministry hazmat teams are operating on the scene.
11:45AM IL: 40 tourists have reportedly been injured in a hazardous materials incident in Eilat’s Club Hotel. A cleaning substance appears responsible for the incident which resulted in a major Magen David Adom EMS response.
According to preliminary information released from Environmental Ministry hazardous materials technicians operating on the scene, hotel employees mixed two substances together, releasing toxic vapors into the air.
At least 24 victims were transported to Eilat’s Yosef-Tal Hospital, all reported in light condition. The remainder are being treated on the scene.
Incident commander Eitan Gadasi reports the situation is now under control. He states that chlorine was mixed with an acidic cleansing agent resulting in the release of a large cloud which led to the guests complaining of irritation of their eyes and discomfort breathing.
12:57PM IL: Close to 100 people from Eilat’s Club Hotel have been transported to or made their way on their own to Yosef-Tal Hospital for treatment of facial irritation and other symptoms of exposure to a toxic cloud that resulted from hotel employees mixing chlorine with a cleaning agent.
