Sunday Evening News Briefs from Eretz Yisrael


A bomb discovered near the Kissufim area of the Gaza border was safely detonated by IDF bomb-demolition technicians.

**21 PA (Palestinian Authority) residents illegally inside pre-1967 Green Line Israel were apprehended by southern area border police on Shabbos. The illegals were apprehended in two vehicles, one driven by a PA resident without a drivers license.

** Two vehicles traveling near Azzoun in Shomron were damaged in Sunday afternoon rock-throwing attacks. Baruch Hashem, no injuries were reported.

**Minister Chaim Ramon will oversee preparation for the May visit of Pope Benedict XVI, who will be a guest of President Shimon Peres between May 11-15th. The Pope will also visit PA areas and Jordan.

**Knesset Speaker Dalia Itzik told a Kadima faction meeting Sunday there is reason to believe not all right-wing parties will recommend Likud for the presidential mandate and as such, Tzipi Livni will most likely receive the mandate. She added that if Livni does not succeed in building a coalition, Kadima should remain in opposition.

**Gaza crossings were opened on Sunday to permit some 200 trucks carrying humanitarian aid.
