Two juveniles have been arrested for spraypainting swastikas on a home in Shirley, Suffolk police said today. The youngsters, whom police did not name because of their ages, were arrested Monday and charged with first-degree aggravated harassment as a hate crime.
Detectives from Suffolk’s Hate Crime Unit believe the suspects spraypainted a swastika on a house at 134 Parkwood Dr. on Sunday. The homeowner, Paul Allocco, 55, told police that earlier that day, a rock had been thrown through the front window.
After an investigation, police said the juveniles confessed.
In addition to the hate crime charge, the youngsters were charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief for allegedly throwing the rock.
The suspects were issued appearance tickets and released to the custody of their parents, police said. They will be tried in Family Court at a future, undetermined date.
“These reprehensible acts of hatred will not be tolerated in Suffolk County,” said County Executive Steve Levy in a statement.
