Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, speaking after a Republican breakfast Thursday, said economic inequality is not what is holding Americans back.
“The challenge isn’t that some people are successful and some people aren’t. Taking from the successful people to provide for those that aren’t isn’t the solution,” Bush said after a closed meeting at the Metropolitan Republican Club on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. “The solution is, How do you build capacity so people can achieve earned success?”
Bush, the son of former President George H.W. Bush and younger brother of former President George W. Bush, is expected to declare his candidacy for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination. He would join a field that includes Florida U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, Kentucky U.S. Sen. Rand Paul and Texas U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz.
Asked when he might officially enter the race, Bush said, “Not today. At some point soon I’ll make up my mind.”
Bush was asked about Democratic New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, who has made reducing income inequality his main goal.
“I’m not a big fan of the progressive agenda,” Bush said. “I’m not a big fan of higher and higher taxes.”

Income inequality is clearly a result, not a cause. Saying that it is not a cause is somewhat silly.
