Bennett Announces Talks with Likud are Over After Shas Gains Control of Religious Services Ministry

bibeAfter hearing that the Ministry of Religious Services was handed over to Shas exclusively, Bayit Yehudi leader Naftali late Sunday night the eve of 2 Rosh Chodesh Iyar stated if this is so, the negotiations with Likud to enter the coalition government have come to an end.

Using Twitter to get his message out, Bennett announced his party will not back down from its demand for continued control over the ministry.

As reported earlier, after giving control over the Interior Ministry District Planning Board to the Kulanu party, PM Netanyahu offered Shas leader Aryeh Deri exclusive control over the Religious Services Ministry as a consolation prize.

Bennett is announcing that if this is indeed accurate, it will bring talks for his party to enter the coalition to an abrupt end for his party is unwilling to back down on its demand for continued control over the ministry.

  1. Give Bennett a few days to cool his heels and overcome his anger at his loss and he’ll be back at the bargaining table begging to be part of the government.

  2. I hate Twitter, I hate Facebook, I hate all these social media which gives people the opportunity to post things to the whole world and avoid the hard work of actually talking with the people involved.
OK private accounts to share family and friends news and pictures are OK, but this challenging of your opponents is just a lazy way of doing things and a great creator of animosity without results.
About the Religious Ministry, why not two assistant ministers(or even three) one from each religious party with one main minister from Likud in charge to negotiate differences.
I think that the defection from both the Bayit Yehudi and the Shas parties should indicate to their leaders that a lot of their former religious constituents were not happy with the way they ran things and they should exercise a little more restraint in their demands.
Besides, MK Bennet, what kind of nationalistic victory will it be if the PM can’t form a coalition and President Rivlin must give “Zionist Union” the chance to make one?(Not that he’d have any better luck, probably, unless Herzog included the Arabs, if they were willing.)

I don’t think so, in a few days there will once again be a split in the Ministry of Religion between Shas and BY.
