New York City has launched a campaign aimed at ending infant deaths.
The Safe Sleep campaign will raise awareness about how to prevent injuries and deaths linked to unsafe sleep pratices.
Mayor Bill de Blasio said Monday those include placing a baby on his or her back, alone in a crib and keeping excessive bedding, bumpers and toys out of the crib.
At the core of the campaign is a renewed effort by city-run health facilities to raise education on infant safe sleep pratices.
The city says about 80 percent of all infant deaths that are due to injury are related to the infant’s sleep position and environment. They say these deaths are also among the most preventable.

The wording of the articles might be understood the opposite of the intended. It might be understood to mean that babies sleeping on their backs is the unsafe practices, but it’s the opposite, since that’s the recommended practices. (Also, the picture with the baby facing down might seem to imply sleeping face down is the “safe” practices but that’s actually the position being spoken against, and not everyone might read the articles.) The part I mean that might use rewording is:
“..how to prevent injuries and deaths linked to unsafe sleep pratices. Mayor Bill de Blasio said Monday those include placing a baby on his or her back…” It maybe should say: “Mayor Bill de Blasio said the safe practices include placing a baby on his or her back..”
