During a brief visit to Los Angeles Harav Matisyahu Salomon, Mashgiach, Bais Medrash Govoha, spoke to the Community on the current matzav we are all presently experiencing.
Quoting from the Rambam in Hilchos Berachos, “L’olam yitz’ack adam al haasid lavo, vyivakesh rachamim, V’yitein hodaah al sheavar, v‘yoda v‘yishabe’ach…”
We should call out to Hashem in regard to the future for no one knows for certain what the future holds. No one can be secure for the future. You never know.
For the past, you must continue to thank Hashem for what you had.
V’chol hamarba, Harei za me’shubach.
The Rambam says that first one should call to Hashem in regard to the future and than he says to be thankful for the past. It should really be in the reverse order!
However when you think about it, the Rambam is saying that even in a moment of tze’aka, of pain and suffering, you should be thanking the Rebono Shel Olam for the good that you had in the past. Nothing comes because we deserve it.
We must consider how good the Rebono Shel Olam is to us in the present, not just for what was done for us in the past.
And if we thank the Rebono Shel Olam, we can expect, we can hope
that the Rebono Shel Olam will send us the Yeshuos that we cry out for.”
