As coalition talks continue, Shas leader Aryeh Deri told Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu that he is seeking total control of the Ministry of Religious Services. Deri was clearly responding to the compromise solution presented by Mr. Netanyahu to Shas and the Bayit Yehudi party, both seeking control of the ministry. According to the prime minister’s plan, he would serve as minister of religious services and both Shas and Bayit Yehudi would have a deputy minister. While it is rumored Bayit Yehudi leader Naftali Bennett is willing to accept the compromise, Deri is not.
Deri is planning to serve as minister of the interior. If the number of cabinet ministers is increased from 18 to 21, based on the formula of one cabinet post for each three MKs, then Deri will seek to appoint Yaakov Margi as minister of religious services. If this is not the case, he will be the only person in Shas serving on the cabinet and he envisions running both ministries.

Rav Elyashiv held they should shut down Ministry of Religious Services entirely
Lapid is likely to offer to support the government in return for excluding Shas and implementing the conscription law. Deri should not be greedy.
I hold they should get rid of Aryeh Deri entirely from politics. Convicted felons should not be allowed to run for anything.
It is an absolute disgrace that anyone should even consider appointing a convicted criminal to the government of the State of Israel. It shows that the Israeli political leaders are devoid of any ethics whatsoever. By all means have Shas in the coalition but without the convict sitting at the cabinet table.

Take it easy on this front.
Firstly, his conviction was arguably ex post facto.
Second,he is hardly the first. Rabin had to resign in ’76 for illegalities.
He got to be PM again in ’92

Maybe you’re right but too many MKs and even PMs were guilty of all kinds of felonies including murder. What else is new? You want him out and the rest should stay?
About Time: Siting Rabin doesn’t help your case any.
Also, the fact that he used his office for corruption and went to jail for it, should matter.
what is this obsession with Aryeh Deri’s “conviction?” Did a beis din of dayonim yerei Hashem convict Deri — according to Choshen Mishpat? Or was it a “court” whose very existence is a chilul Hashem, that judges according to Ottoman, British, and “Israeli” law? Why is it obvious that Sholom Rubashkin’s conviction is tainted with anti-Semitism but not Aryeh Deri’s? This despite the fact that from a Torah perspective, the U.S. court is way more legitimate than the secular Israeli court.
