Recognizing the urgent call of the hour to rally support for Lakewood’s kupas aniyei ircha during this unprecedented financial crisis, the Gateshead Rosh Hayeshiva Harav Avrohom Gurwics shlit”a and the Zvhiler Rosh Yeshiva of Yerushalayim, Harav Mechel Zilber shlit”a have agreed to serve as featured speakers at Tomchei Shabbos’s upcoming 20th Anniversary Dinner.
The program will be open with Divrei Pesichah by the Rosh Hayeshiva Harav Malkiel Kotler, nossi of Tomchei Shabbos, followed by the main address delivered by Harav Osher Chaim Lieberman Shlit”a, rav of Khal Zichron Shneur. In a special video address, Harav Gurwicz shilt”a will deliver a an enlightening Shiur on hilchos tzeddakah. Harav Zilber, a masterful orator and one of the most popular marbitzei Torah of our generation, will deliver the international honorary address. The program’s announcement has generated a tangible sense of anticipation for the rare opportunity to hear divrei Torah firsthand from these two Gedolei Torah from abroad.
This year’s dinner, a milestone event marking twenty years of commitment to sustaining families and saving homes for our community’s nitzrachim, is garnering a warm feeling of support and solidarity for Tomchei Shabbos across the entire spectrum of the kehilla, at every level. Hundreds of yungeleit and balebattim have already signed on to the recently launched Sponsor-a-family campaign, spearheaded by an army of neighborhood representatives and led by Tomchei Shabbos’s dynamic Director of Development Rabbi Yaakov Yitzchok Trainer.
“The presence of every yochid at the dinner is crucial to its success” says Rabbi Trainer. “Even those who have already given or signed on to the campaign are asked to make every effort to attend personally. It behooves us to show support for this “back-to-basics” tzeddakah and for the hundreds of families that are bearing the brunt of the economic downturn.”
Tomchei Shabbos’s budget for the upcoming year is projected to hit $2 million. Each and every one of us can and must do our part to insure that Tomchei Shabbos will be able to sustain that budget. Our achrayus to our kehilla obligates each and every one of us to be at Bais Faiga Tonight.
