The sudden petira of HaGaon HaRav Chaim Shaul Greinaman ZT”L left his many talmidim stunned. The Torah giant will be succeeded by a son, Rav Avraham Yeshayahu, 55, who heads hundreds of families that make up the “Greinamanim” tzibur in Zichron Yaakov.
Tens of thousands of talmidim and rabbonim were on hand for the levaya despite the unseasonably harsh weather condition. Three perakim of Tehillim were recited in line with the niftar’s request that the tzibur should be mispallel on his behalf. One of the hespedim was given by HaGaon HaRav Dov Landau Shlita, Rosh Yeshivas Slobodka. The niftar’s brother Rav Meir spoke as well, telling the tzibur that six years ago on Pesach his brother davened together with Rav Yidel Shapira, asking HKBH for yisurim so he can come to Shomayim in a pure state. The following day Rav Chaim Shaul fell and he later explained he felt a ‘malach’ pushing him down to the ground and he realized his tefilla was received. Since that day he suffered difficult yisurim, explained R’ Meir.
Ichud Hatzalah reports it treated 14 people with light injuries during the levaya including a youth who fell from a height and was injured. Police were out in numbers to closely monitor the levaya. Some persons accused police of being too rough with persons attending the levaya.
