Turkey’s Jewish Community Living in Fear

tur.jpgTurkey’s Jewish community has been living in fear since Operation Cast Lead. Community leaders have been maintaining a low profile and have refused to be interviewed. Those willing release a statement did so under the condition of anonymity.

One Jewish leader quoted in the daily Yisrael HaYom explained last week, swastikas were painted on a wall. When members of the community came to photograph it, they were prevented from doing so by police. Those trying to get near the scene with a camera “were threatened by police with batons”.

Community leaders over the weekend held an emergency meeting and they have decided not to complain or release statements, confident this is a wave of anti-Semitism which will pass.

  1. When will they learn?! Why on earth would any jew with a sense of self-preservation be living in an anti-semitic, muslim country?! They should all pack their bags and make aliyah while they still can!! This wave of anti-seitism will not pass, it will only grow stronger as Israel is forced to defend itself again and again!

  2. The A.S in Turkey is not new. I travel there sometimes and I figured out, that even though chabad operates in 3 cities in Turkey, they are not listed on chabad.org at all!!!!
