During his first visit with Maran Rav Yosef Sholom Elyashiv Shlita, Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat was told by the Rav “Jerusalem has a unique title, ‘The Holy City’, and as such, there is a responsibility to preserve its uniqueness.”
Those present stated the mayor was very impressed with the forum with the Gadol HaDor, who gave him a bracha upon his successful election to office. The mayor stated he views himself as a true shaliach of the people, telling the Rav he praises Yitzchak Pindrus for his efforts and willingness to work together.
Present during the meeting were Rav Yosef Efrati, Yitzchak Pindrus and the mayor’s chareidi team, Avraham Kroizer and Yaakov Isaac. The Rav commended the mayor on his selection of advisors, and the mayor reemphasized his commitment to the ‘status quo’ regarding religious issues, promising to exhibit an attentive ear regarding the needs of the citizens, including the chareidi community.

I met Mayor Barkat and many of his advisors shortly after the elections, and frankly, I too was impressed. Here is a man who truly has the good of all Jerusalemites at heart. I wish him luck.
that’s unbeleivable! baruch Hashem!
This was a great choice for Mayor, we will see strides and growth in Yershayalim under Nir.
Once again we see that tshuvoh is all around us. People who may not have seemed to be korov are indeed more korov than we think, maybe much more in their own way and will continue much further. But, the mitzva is actually on evryone, including “us”.
