It is no secret that tensions run high between supporters of Shas and Yachad, as the former views the latter betraying the derech of Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef ZT”L.
On erev Shabbos 22 Adar, Yachad activists arrived at Bar Ilan Street in Yerushalayim to distribute an election newspaper. It did not take too long for the Shas officials to realize what was taking place and they tried to interfere with the distribution. A ruckus followed and police were called. Police succeeded in calming the situation and then left the area.
Yachad activists add that following the departure of police some of the Shas activists set bundles of the newspapers ablaze.
