Mekubal Rav David Batzri announced his support for the Shas party in the upcoming election for 20th Knesset. As the Sephardi community is sharply divided in this election, the endorsement of such a prominent rav is significant for Shas leader Aryeh Deri, who is having significant difficulty during this election campaign.
Rav Batzri stresses he is apolitical, and he feels this is a matter of preserving Torah, above politics, adding the election will play a big role on the future of the tzibur at large.
He adds with the petira of Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef ZT”L the tzibur is required to stand firm and permit Shas to continue its work on behalf of Am Yisrael.

“As the Sephardi community is sharply divided in this election”. Is there a reason why YWN(and the rest of the world)says this only about the sefardim . Look whats going on with degel and bnei torah by the ashkenazim. Physicall fights and saying dirty things about one another, kicking families out of kehillos and chadorim. I think its time to look in a mirror and stop speaking bad about the sefardi community
I love shas!! rav ovadia is having nachas
i dont understand, because R Ovadiah died, we should vote for Aryeh Deri?
apolitical? Chabad declared no support for any party; that is apolitical! Rabbi Batzri declared his support for Shas; that is political.
It is not Shas that is the problem; it is Deri who runs Shas like his personal business and kicks out good people like Yishai.
Maran ROJ like Yishai and did not like Deri.
Can some one explain why the Sphardim who follow ROJ can actually vote for Deri? Why do the rabbis back some one who ROJ called a rasha and other words of comtempt?
Did a dibuk tell him to vote this way?
I think so!
