Finally, a home care program that you can manage yourself! You can choose your own aide*! A family member or friend, who might have helped you in the past, can now get paid for his/her services. You choose the hours, schedule and requirements. Perhaps a child, cousin, cleaning lady, house keeper, someone you know and trust could be eligible to get paid for their service to you.
Medicaid recognizes that some patients do better with a familiar face than they do with a stranger from an agency, and CDPAP is their answer.
A nurse will come and assess you, the patient, and let you know if CDPAP is the right program for you. She will measure the level of care you need-it could be two hours a day or live in care, and your ability to manage your own care safely.
You can choose your own personal assistant from among your network of friends, relatives or neighbors. The personal assistant doesn’t have to be trained or certified. You can employ someone you trust to care for you in the best possible way, and MEDICAID will pay them.
Just as a patient can now hire someone familiar, if you are a friend or companion to someone special and enjoy being with your patient but need to work, you can now get paid! You know you have your patient’s best interests at heart, the family is familiar with you and you work well with them. CDPAP is your key.
*You can’t employ your spouse or your parent as an aide under this program.
