Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon on Tuesday 12 Adar attacked Naftali Bennett, accusing of seeking political gain from Operation Protective Edge, the IDF counter-terrorism offensive against Hamas in 2014. Ya’alon explains that Bennett’s actions during and after the offensive are unacceptable, calling them “muktzah”.
Ya’alon told Galei Tzahal (Army Radio) that Bennett’s statements to the media compelled both him and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to speak out during the military operation against cabinet ministers who fail to understand the meaning of remaining silent. “One who tries to politically gain from a war is muktzah as far as I am concerned” stated Ya’alon.
Ya’alon was asked if Bennett is suited to serve as defense minister. He stated “In politics there is a coalition and compromise. A part of the problem, the reason we are holding elections is that the political system is comprised of one or two medium parties and other smaller and small parties. The prime minister knows what he wants in all areas not just security and he is unable to advance any policies.”

Political gain? Bennett was fighting, tooth and nail for the safety and security of Israel and its citizens. Maybe Ya’alon forgets that it was Bennett who led the effort to persuade the cabinet to authorize an IDF operation against the terror tunnels Hamas had built and which threatened the Israeli communities around the Gaza Strip during Operation Protective Edge.
