IDF officials are now reporting that sky congestion was the primary cause for an incident in which a combat helicopter gunship downed an IAF drone (pilot-less aircraft). Drones are used on a regular basis for various operations including surveillance.
Following the air force investigation, officials confirmed the drone was downed last week and ruled out any possibility that enemy fire was responsible as was confirmed by the internal investigation.
Air force officials following the end of week two of Operation Cast Lead reports the IAF conducted 1,000 sorties over Gaza. Missions including targeting Hamas sites used to launch rocket at Israeli population centers.
