Hamas placed explosives and booby-traps around a zoo and a school, Israel revealed. The Givati soldiers Baruch Hashem realized the situation before entering the school, which was a maze of trip wires and explosives and the structure contained many explosives intended for IDF soldiers. The school was also a storage facility for weaponry, including RPG rockets, grenades and shotguns.

Chief of Military Intelligence Major-General Amos Yadlin told cabinet ministers that Hamas does not have any reservations regarding the use of civilians as human shields, as well as using residential areas, schools and hospitals as bases for terror operations.
