A pedestrian was fatally struck by a school-bus in Midwood Friday afternoon.
The tragic accident happened at the intersection of Avenue M and Coney Island Avenue just after 2:00PM, in the confines of the NYPD 66 Precinct. Flatbush Hatzolah, as well as the FDNY and NYPD were on the scene in minutes. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene by Paramedics. Sources tell YWN that the victim was a male Hispanic, approximately 50 years old.
The commanding officer of the 70 Precinct, Deputy Inspector Richard DiBlasio responded to the scene, and arranged for the occupants of the bus – all special needs adults – to be taken out of the frigid cold and placed into the Midwood Chapels which is on the corner of Coney and Ave M. The NYPD was very thankful to the Chapel for opening their building.
Traffic was closed on Coney Island Avenue from Avenue L to Avenue N as the NYPD’s Highway Unit conducted an investigation.
