Chairman of the Executive of The Jewish Agency for Israel Natan Sharansky on Wednesday, 29 Shevat attended the funeral of Dan Uzan HY”D, the Jewish volunteer security guard killed outside the Great Synagogue of Copenhagen on Saturday night.
“The Jewish world embraces you at this difficult time,” Sharansky told Uzan’s family. “We at The Jewish Agency will do whatever is necessary to help the Jewish community of Denmark provide for its security, while strengthening Danish and European Jews’ connections to the Jewish people and to Israel.”
37-year-old Uzan was guarding the synagogue, where a bat mitzvah celebration was taking place, when he was shot by an Islamist terrorist who had earlier shot and killed a filmmaker at an event in central Copenhagen.
Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt attended the funeral, as well, along with hundreds of mourners from the Jewish community.
Sharansky then met with Israel’s Ambassador to Denmark Barukh Binah and is set to meet with Jewish students and young people from Denmark and Sweden later today.
