Thousands of residents of Ofakim filled the shuls and batei midrashim visited by Rishon L’Tzion HaGaon HaRav Yitzchak Yosef Shlita, who spent Shabbos in the city. Hundreds of talmidei yeshivos were on hand to usher the rav in on erev Shabbos.
The rav delivered words of chizuk on erev Shabbos in the Sheetrit Yaakov Shul, mentioning Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef ZT”L and his founding of shuls, an educational system and mikvaos in many areas. Following the Friday night seuda the rav gave a shiur in Beit Medrash Ateret Chaim attended by hundreds of residents.
The rav began Shabbos morning with a shiur in the same beis medrash, along with numerous other shiurim throughout the course of Shabbos. During Shabbos he spoke of how Maran during his last year of life asked him, Rav Yitzchak, to replace him at his weekly motzei Shabbos shiur as Maran’s condition continued to weaken.
The Rishon L’Tzion spoke about how Maran gave him the golden Aseres HaDibros, which he wore during the papal visit. He told the participants when he gave them to him that when the pontiff visits he is not embarrassed of his beliefs and he wears a large crucifix and that is why when he met with him, he wore the golden Aseres HaDibros.

There must be much more to the golden aseres ha’dibros than that. After all, CHaZa”L, I believe, explain, why we don’t say them in Shacharis, and the Rishonim, I believe, discuss if/how they may or may not be displayed in our Batei Keneisiyos. She’lo yomru that they are the entire Torah. I would like to read the entire reason behind them.
