New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo says he can’t be blamed for the corruption charges that prompted state Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver to resign any more than President Barack Obama can be blamed for former Rep. Anthony Weiner’s scandal.
The governor says in a profile in The New Yorker published online Monday the charges against Silver relate to the acts of an individual legislator.
He defends his decision to disband a commission investigating government corruption, saying in exchange lawmakers passed modest ethics reforms and prosecutors obtained the commission’s files anyway.
Cuomo says he bears no responsibility for the acts Silver is accused of committing.
Silver is accused of taking nearly $4 million in kickbacks and payoffs. He has said he’ll be exonerated.
Weiner resigned in disgrace from Congress in 2011.

Interesting but wrong you knew if corruption and actually stopped Moreland commission. You enabled him
Mr. Silverman established himself as a force in New York politics before Andrew Cuomo did, and Mr. Cuomo has had to deal with Mr. Silver in his (Andrew C’s) ascent in New York Democratic party politics. Mr. Cuomo should explain why he did not challenge Mr. Silverman’s arrangements with Weitz & Luxenburg, and perhaps US Attorney Preet Bharara will dig into that matter. As an important New York state Democratic politician, Mr. Cuomo’s connection with the disgraced Mr. Silver is stronger than Pres. Obama’s connection with the self-disgraced Anthony Wiener.
And while Mr. Silver’s indictment is pending, should someone take away his black hat?
